Position: Manufacturing Technology Engineering Specialist
Location: Nashua, NH or Valley Green, PA
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. We have design, sales, and manufacturing locations globally and are currently seeking a Manufacturing Technology Engineering Specialist to join our High Speed Backplane team located in Nashua, NH or Etters, PA.
The manufacturing technology engineering specialist will build cost models that guide early technology and material decisions, before designs and suppliers are locked in. Working with the Advanced Materials and Technology team, this role evaluates material, process, equipment, labor, yield and scale-up cost drivers for emerging technologies and innovative materials. The goal is to identify cost-reduction opportunities during technology evaluation rather than after implementation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze developing materials, manufacturing processes, & process streamlining to propose applications in next generation products and manufacturing that maximize product function and minimize cost. Think abstractly and reasonably to realistically estimate unknowns.
- Interact with External Vendors to understand technology gaps between current in-house capabilities & general market processing
- Communicate and Coordinate proposed material and process implications with the broader team, including value engineering, advanced materials, mechanical integrity, receiving factories, & management.
- Perform cost-benefit analysis and consider Alternative Design implications. Vendor vs In-House manufacturing costs. Compare in-house to quoted costs and explain probable material consumption and process differences.
- Gap analysis: predicted vs actual cost and optimizing process parameters. Utility, AFOQ implications, capital payback and business case evaluation. Cost Reduction: managing current vs entitlement cost.
- Second sourcing and Supply chain geo-diversity. To include sourcing of raw materials from different suppliers and manufacturing in different countries.
- Quantify process implications of competing and variable manufacturing processes, including Stamping, Plating, Laser Welding, Adhesives, Dispensing, Multi-Shot Injection Molding, Manual Assembly, and custom designed Automated Assembly systems.
- Perform competitive analysis by reverse engineering competitor’s product to comprehend a probable process and cost.
- Position will include occasional travel to domestic and foreign manufacturing sites.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Processes, Quality, or Materials Engineering is required. Other engineering & STEM degrees and/or certifications will be given consideration.
- Candidates immediately removed from education will be considered, though background in applied process or quality engineering is preferred. At least 3 to 5 years related experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment would be very beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal skills required to interface effectively with people in a wide range of job functions globally.
- Very strong problem solving and logical reasoning skills. Tenacity, assertiveness, and a strong inclination toward order, consistency, and detail are required. Ability to present information in a simplified and attractive but logical form to managers and supervisors is necessary.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as stamping, plating, molding, assembly, casting, machining, additive manufacturing, forming, welding, automation, wire processing, & other materials processing technologies.
- Moderate exposure & understanding of materials and materials science is necessary, including metallurgy, polymers, chemistry, thermodynamics, & mechanics of materials
- Mastery of unit conversions and the values behind common units of mass, volume, area, time, density, and distance is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to accept accountability and drive business directed activities with minimal supervision. Ability to work under pressure or when stressed is vital.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required. Basic experience with 2D / 3D CAD programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Creo is required, including ability to isolate parts in an assembly, measure part volumes, measure surface areas, and produce sections.
- Basic understanding of project scheduling and use of databases is preferred. Skills with ERP Systems are beneficial. Experience prompting & working with AI models is a plus. Willingness to work using AI assist going forward is required.
