Position: Project Engineer - Product Component Development

Location: Etters, PA

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to coordinate mechanical component development activities across multiple projects within the department. The primary focus of this role is to organize and drive engineering execution by maintaining schedules, coordinating technical reviews, tracking deliverables, managing action items, and ensuring alignment among engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing sites, program management, and other stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a mechanical engineering or equivalent background and the technical aptitude necessary to understand component designs, manufacturing processes, drawings, test results, and engineering risks. As the individual develops greater product and process knowledge, the role will expand to include selected hands-on engineering assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate engineering activities across multiple mechanical component development projects from initial concept through production release.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, milestone plans, action-item trackers, risk registers, and other project-management tools.
  • Coordinate priorities, responsibilities, dependencies, and deliverables across engineering team members and supporting functions.
  • Facilitate design reviews, DFM reviews, FEA reviews, tolerance reviews, tooling reviews, and product-validation activities.
  • Document meeting outcomes, technical decisions, open issues, responsible owners, and required completion dates.
  • Follow up with stakeholders to drive timely closure of engineering actions and escalate schedule, resource, or technical risks when necessary.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and release of 3D models, 2D drawings, bills of material, specifications, validation plans, and engineering-change documentation.
  • Support communication and collaboration among internal engineering teams, program management, operations, quality, customers, global manufacturing sites, and external suppliers.
  • Coordinate supplier activities related to DFM, quotations, tooling development, prototype and sample builds, inspection results, qualification, and production readiness.
  • Support NPI and mass-production milestones to ensure an effective transition from product development into volume manufacturing.
  • Coordinate engineering support for components manufactured through sheet-metal fabrication, CNC machining, metal injection molding, die casting, injection molding, stamping, and related processes.
  • Track prototype builds, engineering samples, test plans, qualification activities, and corrective actions.
  • Consolidate technical information and prepare clear project-status reports, presentations, schedules, and leadership updates.
  • Identify potential project risks and work with engineering owners and cross-functional stakeholders to establish mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation within the company’s CAD, PLM, and project-tracking systems.
  • Support customer meetings and technical discussions by coordinating required information, engineering responses, and follow-up actions.
  • Help improve departmental project-coordination processes, reporting methods, documentation, and communication practices.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the department’s products, mechanical components, design requirements, and manufacturing processes.
  • As technical capability and product knowledge increase, perform selected engineering assignments such as drawing reviews, basic tolerance analyses, design updates, component evaluations, test-data reviews, and root-cause investigations under the guidance of experienced engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in engineering, product development, manufacturing, project coordination, or a related technical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects, priorities, stakeholders, and deliverables simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical drawings, GD&T, tolerances, materials, manufacturing processes, and basic mechanical design principles.
  • Experience coordinating engineering reviews, product-development activities, tooling programs, validation, qualification, NPI, or manufacturing-readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as sheet-metal fabrication, CNC machining, metal injection molding, die casting, injection molding, stamping, or assembly is preferred.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and PLM systems is preferred; Creo and Windchill experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with consistent attention to detail, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, suppliers, customers, leadership, and global teams.
  • Ability to understand technical information, identify gaps or risks, and coordinate the appropriate engineering resources to reach resolution.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and drive actions to completion in a fast-paced, global development environment.
  • Interest and ability to develop deeper technical expertise and gradually assume selected hands-on engineering responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally, including travel to Asia and Mexico, to support suppliers and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in the high-speed interconnect, electronics, telecommunications, or datacom industry is preferred.
