Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. The CBS team is looking for a Continuous Improvement Quality Engineer to join the Quality Department in Etters, PA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Continuous Improvement Quality Engineer will drive sustainable improvements in product quality, manufacturing processes, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction through quality engineering principles, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, statistical analysis, and risk management. This role serves as a cross-functional change agent, leading initiatives that reduce variation, eliminate waste, improve process capability, strengthen prevention, and enhance overall business performance.

 

The role applies recognized quality engineering practices across quality management systems, process improvement, statistical methods, reliability, risk management, corrective action, and data-driven decision making.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Continuous Improvement Leadership

  • Lead Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and operational excellence initiatives that improve product quality, process performance, cost, delivery, and customer satisfaction
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to reduce defects, scrap, rework, cycle time, waste, and cost of poor quality
  • Facilitate cross-functional improvement projects across manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, supplier quality, NPI, and quality
  • Develop and maintain continuous improvement roadmaps aligned with business objectives and promote a culture of prevention rather than detection

Quality Engineering and Problem Solving

  • Analyze manufacturing and business processes to identify sources of variation, instability, non-value-added activity, and quality risk
  • Apply DMAIC and structured problem-solving methods, including 8D, Fishbone Diagrams, 5-Why Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Pareto Analysis
  • Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions; monitor effectiveness and sustainability before closure
  • Provide fact-based recommendations on process feasibility, risk, capability, manufacturability, and improvement priorities

Statistical Analysis and Data Analytics

  • Use statistical methods and software to evaluate process performance and support data-driven decisions
  • Perform process capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk), Statistical Process Control, Measurement System Analysis, Gage R&R, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and Design of Experiments
  • Develop dashboards and KPI reporting systems for quality, process performance, corrective action effectiveness, and improvement project results
  • Apply predictive analytics and AI-enabled quality tools where appropriate and consistent with approved business practices

Risk Management and Quality Planning

  • Lead product and process risk-reduction activities through DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, risk assessments, and risk registers
  • Drive mitigation plans for identified product, process, supplier, and launch risks and verify completion and effectiveness
  • Evaluate the impact of engineering changes, supplier changes, process modifications, deviations, and transfers
  • Support launch readiness reviews, APQP activities, and incorporation of lessons learned into future programs

Quality Management Systems and Compliance

  • Support and improve the Quality Management System and applicable requirements, including ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, and other standards applicable to the business
  • Participate in internal, supplier, and customer audits and drive timely closure and effectiveness verification of findings
  • Develop, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures, work instructions, quality methods, and best-practice documentation
  • Promote standardization, document control, knowledge sharing, and consistent application of quality requirements

Product, Process, Supplier, and Customer Support

  • Participate in New Product Introduction and APQP activities, including design reviews, DFM/DFA reviews, reliability planning, qualification testing, First Article Inspection, and PPAP activities
  • Collaborate with engineering and suppliers to improve manufacturability, incoming quality, supplier process capability, and production readiness
  • Analyze supplier performance and lead or support supplier corrective actions, audits, development, and continuous improvement projects
  • Analyze customer complaints and field failures, support customer quality initiatives, and present improvement results when required
  • Capture lessons learned from improvement projects; develop best-practice repositories and train or mentor team members in quality and continuous improvement tools

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 5+ years experience in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, or a related manufacturing role
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical procedures, professional journals, quality system requirements, customer requirements, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write clear reports, business correspondence, procedures, work instructions, project charters, and improvement summaries
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, suppliers, engineers, and manufacturing site representatives
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence without direct authority, using strong communication, facilitation, project management, and change-management skills
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, systems thinking, data-driven decision making, problem solving, critical thinking, and continuous learning
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with minimal supervision, manage priorities, provide timely project updates, and escalate risks or barriers requiring management support
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to support improvement projects, suppliers, customers, product development, and process ramps
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill to train individuals and teams in quality engineering and continuous improvement tools
  • Preferred certifications include: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, Lead Manufacturing certification

  • Quality planning and engineering: APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, FAI, CAPA, sampling plans, reliability analysis, and risk analysis

  • Statistical methods: Design of Experiments, capability analysis, Gage R&R, hypothesis testing, regression, statistical modeling, and data visualization
