Position Summary:  Technical Sales Engineer, Optical Products

Location: San Jose, California

AICC, a group within Amphenol, is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.).  Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEM’s globally.  Our headquarters are located in Nashua, NH and we have design, sales and manufacturing locations globally.

Our Optical Products Business Unit is targeting Telecom / Datacom Markets in the U.S. for our Optical transceiver and AOC Products.  The product portfolio brings a wide array of transceivers packaged into many interconnect form factors to meet customer requirements. We are currently seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to join our Optical Products Team.  The position will be located based out of San Jose, California but can be remotely located.


Our customer’s ultimate success depends on our ability to solve cutting edge problems in relation to high bandwidth signal transmission.  We value our relationships with these companies and we depend on our Technical Sales Teams to foster this ongoing partnership.

As a Technical Sales Engineer you interface with our external customers and internal product development, product marketing, and engineering teams.  Sell and promote all Amphenol ICC Optical Products through original equipment manufacturers (OEM customers) and/or Tier suppliers, via successful design win (AVL) activities and total channel management. Increase penetration at existing accounts focused on identifying new business opportunities in communications markets to include direct to OEM, Distribution, Reseller and Internet Service Provider.  Past experience in the Reseller and Telco/Internet Service Provider is an advantage.


  • Promote and sell Amphenol ICC Optical Products with established customers and developing new prospects and markets
  • Identify all interconnect opportunities/applications of Amphenol ICC optical products for clients 
  • Lead technical efforts to work with a customers engineering team to design in new products, solve interconnect problems, and respond to technical inquires
  • Develop and implement sales plan and growth strategy for territory and customers
  • Meet and exceed established sales quota and strategic objectives via new design wins and management of the entire sales channel
  • Motivate existing and potential customers to increase product content on the design
  • Provide customer service by supplying information related to samples, delivery dates, part drawings and specifications, and responding to any issues/concerns, etc.
  • Track orders and revenue by customer
  • Communicate with internal sales and marketing team to provide customer feedback
  • Keep informed of new products and other general information of interest to customers
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the market and competition in your territory
  • Travel required


  • Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a Business/Marketing technical aptitude          
    • The role will draw on either your electronic engineering background (signal transmission, EMI/EMC, signal integrity) and / or your mechanical engineering background (materials, tolerance analysis, CAD tools).                                     
  • 3-5 year’s experience in design or applications engineering of Optics/Optical Transceiver experience / interconnect solutions industry
  • Field sales experience or related experience (inside sales or customer service with interconnect,  electromechanical components)
  • Experience with international business practices


  • Sales skills to successfully negotiate a technical design win, approved vendor status, contracts, and customer partnership.
  • Demonstrated history / past experience in dealing in with the following end customers:
    • OEM
    • Reseller
    • Telecom or Internet Service Provider
    • Distribution
  • Self-motivated and driven to identify, qualify and pursue new customers and new markets
  • Ability to effectively communicate across the engineering and managerial functions of a business
  • Technically astute with an ability to acquire extensive product and application knowledge, with an ability to assess, and provide solutions for, customer design challenges/needs
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work with co-workers and external customers
  • Strong oral and written communications to provide high level customer service and build relationships
  • Organizational skills to anticipate, prioritize, plan, organize to meet and exceed strategic objectives.
  • Leadership skills to assess and drive new opportunities in a global account environment
  • Modeling tools Pro E or Solidworks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
